french blues and neutrals

There are a million (at a rough estimate) other and more important things that I should be doing this morning, but the joy of a blog is that it gives me the excuse to re-organise my day and justify some fun.

I found these beautiful fabrics yesterday:  an old bolster and some cereal bags, and teamed them up with a remnant of blue toile de jouy I've been keeping for an unknown reason.  Then I thought I needed a backdrop and ha!  the painted floor - at last it comes into its own!

So this is my offering to you on a cold weekend in Normandy.  A little linen, a little indigo blue, a little  antique stoneware and china .....

and finally for those of who who are saying "oh, so she painted the floor white in the end",  I have to reply "no actually", in real life it is very pale grey, although I grant you, it does appear white here.

I wish you all a lovely weekend, thank you for reading me.

  1. At last I get to see your painted floor, what a wonderful back drop it makes for your new blue linen finds. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of it used as a backdrop. Lovely pictures as always. Enjoy your weekend, it's also cold here with flutters of snow.

  6. Oh, Sharon....

Well, I TOLD you not to paint the floors....but did you listen? Nope.

What I didn't tell you (and I might as well do it now) is that painted floors are (to paraphrase an old saying of my father's) like horses, swimming pools, and boats; one should make a point of never having anything so high-maintainance in one's own life, but one should also make a distinct point of making FRIENDS with folks who do have them.

so, I'm actually very glad that you have at least two of the above-cited items; I'll visit anytime, enjoy&admire them thoroughly, and afterwards return happily my horse-free, boat-less, and no-painted-floors life.

Your floor is, by the way, very pretty.

    Have a fine weekend,

  12. Lovely post. Every time I go to a flea market or antique fair in France (Barjac, Ile sur Sorgue, local vides-grenier) I try to resist the urge to buy more textiles like the ones you are showing. I could buy them all!

  14. I want to see the whole floor....
Let us know how it stands up to dogs and daily wear and tear. In my house it wouldn't work.
We are now considering a new floor that looks old so when the inevitable happens I won't cry....

  24. My daughter just redid her bicycle in that color scheme. It's lovely.

I like my painted floors. They are also a light gray, but they are concrete with an epoxy. Actually they don't show that much dirt, and I am sure that in the desert we have more than Normandy.

  25. Hi Sharon!!!!

My first set of china was blue and white Wedgewood called Countryside. In total it had an eight piece place setting and various odd pieces. I paid $20 for all of this beautiful china set. Blue and white has always gone together beautifully in a house's decor.

I love the linen and how you put together and your floor looks great as you backdrop.

And Sharon, I/we really love your blog!!! I get really excited when I check out my emails and I see you have sent me one. It's visiting friends and we all have in common the beautiful surroundings of our homes, with things that we cherish and want to share.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!! We had a beautiful sunny day here in Vancouver, BC.
