It is quite uncanny for the beginning of February, but I could swear that there is the tiniest hint of spring in the air!
Yesterday as I fed the horses I heard the first skylark singing way above me, and there is that je-ne-sais-quoi tingly feeling floating around.
Tomorrow morning I shall even be heading off to a fair, very early in the season .... in a small town I've never been to before. It may be rubbish, but I'll head over there with a pal, and it's nice for us to think that our brocante hunting season will soon be in full swing.
In the meantime I leave you with pictures of a little bouquet I put together yesterday. THis bunch of pink ranunculus was calling out to me, and once home they looked quite comfortable in the company of ivy and mahonia from the garden.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers. We have tulip and daffodil sprouts coming up, and it snowed a little last night. I just checked them, and they are still there and green as ever. It's unbelievable. I am looking forward to getting my hands in the Spring soil (when it arrives). For now, I will watch them from the window with a cup of hot tea in hand.

ReplyDeleteHere, in Atlanta, Georgia, we are seeing the crocus just beginning to bloom, and the grape hyacinth about to burst with color. Daffodil and tulip are not far behind. Although this "race to spring" is a bit early for my New England soul, I find excitement in the new life bursting through the earth. I can fully attest that Spring is nearly here!!

Sharon, sorry to miss your birthday yesterday! I hope that you had a wonderful day celebrating with family & friends. I can see you made yourself a beautiful birthday bouquet! The only sign of Spring here in New Hampshire is the bouquet of daffodils, daisies & lilies on my desk. We won't be seeing any green shoots pushing through the dirt until at least April. I always love your floral arrangements. You make them look so easy. They are tres pleasing to the eye, n'est-ce pas? I have not heard the expression for a very long time....je-ne-sais-quoi. It was always one that made me smile as I did tonight while I read your expressive post. Have a wonderful day with your friend tomorrow. Let me begin by saying that I love your blog and never miss a comment. You live in one of my favorite places on earth; one that my family and I have been blessed to visit several times.
ReplyDeleteThat having been said, your post today made me chuckle. You see, I live in Miami Florida, and we are currently, joyously enjoying what passes for winter here. When I read, "Could Spring be on its way?", I was reminded of a contest my next-door neighbor and I have every year. We race to see which one of us can detect "a chill in the air" first. We too call it, "a tingly feeling in the air"!
While the rest of the northern hemisphere is hoping for Spring, we are praying it doesn't come too soon for it will mean having to turn the a/c back on! These are our days of clear blue, cloudless skies, flowers, picnics, and outdoor farmers markets. For the past three days we have been so enjoying a "cold front". Today's temps ranged from a low of 61 to a high of 73 - wonderful chilly weather, n'est pas?

Could spring be on its' way? Hmm, just across the Channel in London it's 3C (we have been told that a bit more snow could come our way) and in Provence where we have a place, the temperatures are fluttering between 0C-10C, but then we're only juuuust in February, so the right temperatures, and spring will come when spring is ready, it always does :)
Gorgeous bouquet Sharon. You do have a way with your flowers. I'm wondering if ranunculus will grow in Arizona. I must find out since I do love them.

So pretty! It's only 3 degrees F here in Minnesota, and it snowed last night, but I heard springtime birds singing this morning when I went out to my car...it can't be far away now!
