french ski chalets keeping up with the times

I am not a great skier, in fact that is an understatement ... but I am happy to head up a mountain if it means that the family can ski and I can enjoy the sheer cosiness of a mountain chalet.  You know, the roaring fire, a pile of good books, mugs of hot chocolate, warm socks, soft music and the occasional excursion for lunch on a ski slope.....

But oh my word, look how ski chalets have changed ..... the traditional french chalet was a lot of wood, gentle fabrics, greenery, red and white cross stitch, reindeer motifs ...

but this year the chic chalet is wearing white, silver, grey and is draping itself in furs and high-tech gadgets ..

Board games are replaced by flat screens,  chequered plaids on beds have moved over for fur covers, and there are indoor pools appearing  all over, which I suppose puts an end to all that indulging in fondues and waffles .... times are a-changing, that's for sure!

  1. Thank you for making the house photo transition from winter to spring so easy! When I saw the new home photo I thought, "Oh, no! She took down the wreath!" But the house still looks exquisite as does the blog. Living in the tropics I so enjoy seeing such a distinct contrast. Thanks again!

  2. So lovely, not the Montana ski lodges that I remember! I would seriously love to see if I could still ski but most likely would be happy sitting inside with a book and a hot fire! Have a lovely weekend and thanks for the dream.

    Cheers,

  4. Thank you Sharon for the lovely chalet pictures.can I please reserve the bedroom with the large bed with the fur cover. No TV for me, just lots of lovely magazines to browse through, board games & a pack of cards so we can all enjoy some mulled wine & chat together.

  5. My dream is to live in a chalet in the mountains Sharon. Your stunning pictures are making me dream some more......! My daughter is at present working as a chef in the French Alps, in a stunning private chalet......so living my dream.......minus the slaving over a hot stove all day perhaps!? Can't wait to check out your chalet Pinterest board. Thank you for the inspiration.

I would love to spend a week or so here :) I would love to go skiing and come back to this cosy place after snowy adventure, or I would love to wait for my kidos here with a cup of hot chocolate for everyone! 11. Oh I wouldn't mind spending a day or two....or ten. I am not a downhill skier, but I do love cross-country. I tend to knock people out of ski lifts...oops!

  13. OMG I have died and gone to ski chalet heaven!!!! These are simply amazing, that second and last picture has me dreaming of a European ski vacation PRONTO! I am like you.....I could take or leave the actual skiing but do love the outfits (call me vain its OK) and the "concept" of skiing, the beautiful white snow, sun kissed cheeks, fireside fondue dinners at the top of the mountain, cozy down filled beds in front of roaring fires.....THAT'S what I love most about a "ski" vacation! These are simply amazing!

  17. Forget the skiing! With a chalet like this I'd rather tuck in and enjoy the cozy surrounds... not to mention the Fondue and hot chocolate. Lovely.

  18. Such a chic chalet. I like how they mixed the modern with the rustic. I would love to just stay indoors by the fireplace. The bedrooms look so comfortable. Seems like a relaxing weekend just to stay there.

  20. Coming originally from Colorado and a pretty darn good skier I might add, I do miss the luxury, the aroma of a log fire and the ambience of the ski resorts. I don't miss the cold though since now I'm in sunny warm Arizona. This has been a nostalgic memory for me Sharon and many fond thoughts I do have. The fur cover on the bed is gorgeous. These are very sophisticated and quite chic. Yes, the times, they are a-changin'
