Have you noticed how sometimes life is going along swimmingly, at a good steady rhythm, without too many hitches or surprises, until one incy wincy detail throws it all haywire.
That's what happened this morning, to my regular, and very civilised Wednesday morning walk.
Come winter, come summer, rain or shine, I walk in the forest each Wednesday morning with my good and patient friend J, and her lovely black lab Rupert. We stride through the forest at reasonably high speed, chatting and laughing, not noticing the time go by - only pausing now and again to yell after a dog (invariably mine!) gone AWOL.
These walks are one of the small and simple highlights of my week.
This morning, of course, we had young Ghetto in tow, and then another good friend turned up with a certain Elliott.
Et nous voilà avec 4 chiens!!!
Suddenly we had 4 dogs!
Where shall I start?!
It was a mess!
Ghetto, by way the smallest, could think of nothing else than getting on top of Elliott (I swear that pup will have certain small parts of him missing by the end of the summer!)
Gibson kept running away, and poor Elliott was rather traumatised by Ghetto's amorous intentions and wouldn't get out from under our feet.
Thank goodness that Rupert was there to raise the tone of the whole event.
Even Iris was amazed to see us walk past the field with so many dogs in tow!
Which reminds me: Quick had a visit from the vet yesterday and it is ALL GOOD NEWS!! The bone is mending beautifully, the swelling is well reduced and we'll be starting some gentle walking on a lead rein before the end of the month! YAY!

I laughed when I read this. Walking with a pack of four dogs is no easy feat. Ghetto is just being a rambunctious Jack Russel :-) Sounds like he needs to get back on the leash for the next walk. Maybe he will learn his lesson then, le petit Rascal! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

ReplyDeleteToo funny- we live with 4 dogs every single day- and to say it is quite the adventure? Well... Maybe on certain days it is- two German Shepherd 8 mos old pups, one rescue pup that looks to be 1/2 of something and another 1/2 of a party, then we have our rescue Jack Russel named Zip who is a grouchy little creature, but loved beyond measure. Also our chickens that we have named after my Grandmother's sisters (:-)

ReplyDeleteI am laughing as I read your account of the Wednesday walk gone haywire. My dogs, Stella and Dante, and my neighbor's German Shepherd can be fine together until my other friend's Chihuahua join the others. She's is a little firecracker, and has no fear of being swallowed by the big dogs. She'll yep non-stop until Dante growls at her and walk off. Dear Gibson decided to go AWOL, can't blame him at all. And Iris was probably happy not being a part of the walking party. Soon it will be independent day for Quick, out of the stable and starts exercising again. Happy for Quick and for you too Sharon.

DeleteI have been feeding the neighbors horse for two years, as they don't. I recently purchased it, built a stall and fenced five acres, brought her home, and she is lungeing, pushy and bit the fire out of me. Do you have any good sources of info about her behavior? and what to do about it? I am trying to find a trainer but so far no luck.

We used to do that and then life got busy so it's just me on my treadmill…which is fine because I get a lot of thinking done but there's nothing like walking with friends…AND Dogs! What an adventure! ReplyDeleteHA! Anytime you take more than one dog on a walk it can turn into a fiasco! I love how they raise their noses up in the air and sniff. It seems they can smell anything and of course they can always find a puddle or two to get into (I've had my share of muddy paws!).
