mimosa et la cote d'azur

I'm taking a few days break, in the South of France, visiting with family, relaxing, low key, ... zen

Here it is the season for mimosas, bright yellow, heavy scented, growing wild in the hills all along the Côte d'Azur.

I love the perfume of this flower, linked to happy memories, visions of small towns here in the South.

During this week I'll be posting a few simple bits and pieces from the south, places to visit, moments to remember .. nothing too ambitious.

Wishing you a long slow zen weekend ...

  9. Anonymous - I am so sorry for your loss (tried the reply button but nothing happened). Losing a beloved pet is very very hard, I have gone through it myself.

Sharon, beautiful photos as always, and these make me want spring to hurry!

  10. I was just swooning over the acacia mimosa flowers we used in a gig on Wednesday. It is one of my favorite flower scents of all and I so look forward to it every year. Between mimosa and genistra, the late winter season has lovely, soft scents.

  12. Sharon, this is just so beautiful! And one of my favorite places ever. My husband, Ned, always wanted to spend part of the summer on the Riviera and we would drive everywhere up into the hills overlooking the sea. These flowers are completely amazing. Thank you for this splendid post. xx's

  14. That shade of yellow is a harbinger of spring all over the world - so gorgeous! When the forsythia starts blooming in my garden here in Minnesota, I know that spring is here to stay.

  15. Oh i hope you have a lovely time. That yellow is so cheery!
I hope to visit Menton for the lemon festival someday...sigh... I have been dreaming of it for about 20 years. Alas I've never made it past Périgeux.
I'd love to feature that festival in the magazine - I think the photos could be so gorgeous - I am a citrus addict!
    Relax for me!
    Warmly,

  19. I always smile at mimosa, wonder why it is called that when in its homeland here in Oz it is plain old wattle, but always the first flower in my garden and then the various varieties follow on.

  23. Mimosas are beautiful. It is their season here in northern California as well. But they make my husband's allergies really flare up, lol! We admire them from a distance.

  27. The Côte d'Azur has its own heart beat - makes relaxing so easy.
Our Australian wattle is a subspecies of your mimosa and is on our coat of arms. Masses of yellow to golden blooms herald in the Spring on most of our continent, which have the bees working overtime.
    Bonne vacances

  29. Ah, the fragrance..we call your Mimosa, Acacia in California. I used to have a hill behind a previous home covered in it. My kitties would romp through the treed areas and come home bearing the fragrance. I would brush them and I can still recall the intoxicating scent. Wonderful memories...I would love to see and experience your mimosa someday. I love the wreath, such saturated color!
    XOXO, Chris

  36. ...and we in Australia call it Wattle! It makes me sad to see it as we are coming now out of summer (a darned wet one this year!) and into our dull boringly short days into winter. I adore your photos!

  37. Hope you are enjoying your short break away Sharon. And achoo, achoo from me too with the Mimosa/Wattle blossom, the drug companies always know when it's out in the Adelaide Hills, my purchases of antihistamines go through the roof as do their profits!
