These wonderful pictures have been doing the rounds I know, so please forgive me if you've seen them already. But since this house lies quite close to us, I felt I sort of had the right to show them too!
This beautiful and traditional Normandy home dates back to the 17th century. It has been lovingly and painstakingly restored by the talented Boston designer Charles Spada. I love his colour palette, not only fashionably today but VERY traditional French for this sort of property.
I don't know how much time Mr Spada spends here but the house looks comfortable and liveable, we have no trouble imagining him entertaining here, or simply enjoying some time out in the calm countryside.
He has found some serious chandeliers for the house, and they look wonderful in these large rooms. The leopard print sofa is a coup de maître!
I am sometimes asked how the French feel when a 'foreigner' swoops in and buys a stunning property like this one. Frankly when you see a restoration of this quality, carried out with such an evident love of French style, I don't see how anyone could possibly object!

Oh.....how stunningly gorgeous!!! I had not seen these photos before, I thank you for posting them....this house looks divine!!!
ReplyDeleteBonjour! Beautiful house! I see a definite Bostonian touch here and there, such a lovely marriage of styles.
ReplyDeletePS Is that really a French expression? coup de maitre? master stroke? I like that... I shall use it several times today and see if any of the geeks notice!
As we sey in Italy: "DIVINA"!
ReplyDeleteInspiring and "save" worthy! I have not seen these images either so appreciated you sharing them with us. Love the colour of the walls in the first image..love it all of course! have a lovely weekend. Colette x
ReplyDeleteEncore un endroit superbe ! Merci Sharon ! Ce manoir de briques et pierres se prêterait bien à une aquarelle...
ReplyDeleteJ'aime bien aussi le canapé "léopard" !
Bonne journée,
Céline.

too much loveliness!.....I wouldn't be able to sleep.....love!....smiles
ReplyDeleteYes! I've pinned that pic of the leopard sofa & the lovely frames on pinterest but I have never seen the whole house! Oh, I'm in love!

It's all very beautiful, but the only thing I don't care for is the leopard sofa. I think because I was an interior designer for 25 years, I find it a too obvious "coup de maitre". Such gorgeous chandeliers. I love the way the bed sits in front of bookcases in the master bedroom too, so charming.
ReplyDeleteI'm entranced by this home and just can't get tired of gazing at the photos, picking out little details and thinking about ways to bring my version to our very different home. I actually love that leopard sofa -- it wouldn't work at our house, or in many spaces, but I love it here, with the dramatic chandelier overhead. Would love to take afternoon tea in that space and have deep conversations!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a gorgeous weekend, Sharon!
Oh, my! If this were my home, I think I'd be there year round. What an enchanting property. These images are new to me, so thank you for sharing them. ~ sarah
ReplyDeleteI thought of you when I saw this in a recent magazine, wondering if you had the pleasure of visiting this fabulous home. I love his mix of traditional French style with a little glam - the leopard sofa is amazing! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Cynthia
ReplyDeleteBonjour,
ReplyDeleteVotre blog est magnifique. Je regarde tous les jours, j'admire votre travail ! Et votre maison me fait rêver aussi.
Bon weekend
Avec les salutations de la Suisse !!!

No apology necessary...Charles Spada's home bears repeating...I think most of us agree we could just move right in and not change a thing...and the best part would be that we would have a fun and talented neighbor like you down the road to roam the countryside with looking for treasures! Hope you have a delightful weekend.
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Jermaine
I,like Cynthia at Diane James Home, had seen this home in a recent magazine and thought of you! This is spectacular! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteDear Sharon,
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see my former home in Normandy, the Manoir de Berthouville, currently featured in the January 2102 issue of Veranda Magazine, on your blog My French Country Home. I'm glad to know that you and your readers enjoyed the photography. The house is very special, it was a living dream during the time that I was privileged to have owned it. I'm now looking for a smaller, interesting getaway closer to home.
Best regards,
Charles Spada
Dear Charles
DeleteThank you, you are very gracious to write. I toyed with the idea of sending you a mail asking permission to feature your home on the blog, then thought that I’d be bothering you. I hope you don’t mind.
We live about an hour east of your property, but I recognise the distinctive brick and stone architecture, so typical of our area. I can only admire the beautiful interior you created, I actually think you did a far better job than most French people I know!
Thank you for leaving a comment, I tried to reply privately but your address is 'no reply'.
warm regards
Sharon
