Dashed to the local market on Saturday, to buy food for the weekend of course, but also to grab a few photos of the fruit and veg.
Found myself totally sidetracked by baskets - not for sale, but already sold and in use. Keeping my eyes and lens down I surprised more than one person by immortalising their market panier. Just for fun.
This has nothing to do with trends or fashion, these people haven't checked the design pages to see what is the in thing to use at the market aujourd'hui - like so many things here, this is simply the way things are done ...

A nice post-idea!

It's funny how fashion really is inspired by those who are not driven by it in the least. Great shot of real life. Although it is all around us we rarely see it. Thanks for the reminder. ~Jen
ReplyDeleteI love last image's woven trolley! I want the same one for my weekend food shopping!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love baskets and these are amazing. Thanks for the creative post.

Love this!
ReplyDeleteLove to see pictures about the everyday way of life in France. thank you
ReplyDeleteSo true. These are not design or fashion statements, they are necessities of shopping in France. My favs are the first two - I instantly felt transported to the south of France, especially the colorful one.
ReplyDeleteI brought my straw market basket with the leather straps back with me from Provence and carry it with pride to my local market in the states. I bag my own groceries, never take their plastic bags. It's my way of feeling French each market day.
A bientot,
Sam
Since moving to Buenos Aires , I have a nice collection of market baskets and bags.
ReplyDeleteI feel so ... Parisienne ~
Love the way of living and the little trolley cart.

That rolling wicker basket...WANT!
ReplyDeleteLove the basket - and a day at the market. The examples in your photos look a lot more elegant than the recyclable bags I usually take to shop!
ReplyDeleteSimple, beautiful and ecological without pretentions! So French!

Even though they are not fashion statements, there are some pretty ones to be found. For those not able to afford trips to France every year there is always The French Basketeer, who sells some marvelous ones. The added benefit is that they are made by poor women in the French colonies, and the proceeds go to them. I encourage you to type that in to Google, and perhaps you will find one you like. Definitely cheaper than a ticket to France, no matter how lovely that would be! No, I don't work for this lady.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! Somehow I don't feel as chic when carrying my reusable grocery bags.
ReplyDeletefun!
ReplyDeleteIt's these enchanting habits of daily life in rural France that I find so appealing. I use my French market basket (with pride) when shopping - it holds so much - but it is definitely a poor cousin to some of these baskets. Warm wishes.
ReplyDeleteThe baskets exude a fine authenticity, as indeed does your beautiful and restful blog. It's good to see the home treated with such dignity as a worthwhile centre of being, and now I am looking around to see what small thing I can use to experiment with painting black...
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to shop! I have so many French shopping bags/baskets and never think to take them to the market...probably because I buy too much! lol!

I have a few French market baskets, and I just adore them. I take them with me every time I go shopping either at the market or at the grocery store.
