autumn pleasures in my garden

Leaves are beginning to tinge orange and rouge, the wind is picking up and it's time to pick apples to store for winter.  This is the season of excess, of strained branches, of deep pinks and purples, the sweet perfume of ripe fruit on the air.

We like to store our apples in the cellar on 'clayettes', special trays designed for storing fruit.   I sometimes buy these stacking trays in brocantes, love that they are practical and beautiful.

and if you'd like to see more pictures taken in our garden pop on over to see Julie at Being Ruby, she's showing more shots from her stay here, and they are way better than mine!

  1. Lovely photos. Yes, it does look like fall. I can't keep up with the one giant apple tree in my Seattle backyard. Apples fall on the ground every day! Look at you, so organized. You have the right gear it looks like (all from local brocantes, I assume ;-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  2. Beautiful pictures, Sharon. The apples look oh so tempting! The leaves here, in Seattle, have started to turn as well and I just can't wait for the burst of colours. Have a great autumn!

  12. We also store apples in old wooden crates in the cellar but I have never seen these stacking trays. They are exactly what I should have.

  14. What's old is new and ever so perfect these days. We are all getting ready to nest inside as fall approaches this week. Still lots to do but always with a smile and joy in our hearts for harvest time.
