I know that it's stating the obvious, but as much fun and as convenient as our internet correspondence may be, it will leave nothing tangible, no lasting physical memory.
This was brought home to me even more, when I found some old papers at the brocante fair recently.
The beautifully hand written notes and lists, talk of small needs, reasonable expense and an elegant way of listing services and goods that even makes the bills look appealing.
If you are interested in acquiring any of these documents, you are welcome to contact me by mail or keep an eye on the brocante where a couple of the prettiest papers will be listed.

Mmmmm - love old papers Sharon and I've acquired quite a collection myself over the years of brocanting in France. Lucky you for the acquisition :) You've just inspired me to pop out and use one in a calligraphy.

Why has much of the elegance of the past lost? I feel I missed out.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I wish I had learned to write like that. How much more elegant a trip to the grocery store would be if my list was written with such a flourish!! Great finds.
ReplyDeleteI wish my electric bill came looking that pretty. It would perhaps make the damage done from running the central air conditioning CONSTANTLY during this swampy summer more bearable. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand the charm these old papers hold for you...for me too.
ReplyDeletefriends and I still 'write' notes... always have always will
ReplyDeletethat pennmanship is lost forever though, I believe
Oh, we make our children send handwritten notes through snail mail. Everyone loves to recieve mail in the outside mailbox!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a shame! My mum still writes birthday and Xmas cards for all her grandchildren ... and they love finding something delivered by the postman in their mailboxes.
ReplyDeleteDearest Sharon,
ReplyDeleteOld genuine handwriting is precious! Enjoy your treasures and for sure, someone will be very pleased with them.
Love to you,
Mariette
I read it from starting to end and I noticed that your writing skill is such a best and better than other writers. I really like it and like to read once again, you shared a very interesting post with us.
ReplyDeleteI agree! So I dug out my fountain pen a couple of years ago, bought sepia ink even though it made me feel like a teenager, and made an effort with my handwriting. Of course I also type and scribble with a ballpoint or a pencil, but I enjoy the feeling that I am dealing communication from the full deck, so to speak. My lists have new depths and glamour!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the tangible way our handwritten words feel, even the mundane lists, on paper. I know we're supposed to be eco-conscious, but I love papeterie. I love pen on paper.
ReplyDeleteOld genuine handwriting is precious. I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in this topic. I am hoping the same best work from you in the future as well.
