The town hall in any village in France is important. Ours is rather over-grand for such a small village but it's well cared for, and is certainly a busy place. This is where we come for any administrative papers, where we keep in touch with village life. Definitely more practical than political. I love the flowers they planted this year, I love its imposing façade.

Hello:
ReplyDeleteWe are sure that, in France, just as in Hungary, one finds the need to appear at the Town Hall or its equivalent almost every day to carry out all manner of administrative tasks. Not so in the UK where we barely know the whereabouts of the Town Hall!
This town hall looks ideal for the village and is solid looking and full of charm.
ReplyDeleteThe Town Hall in the village where I used to live was always a hive of activity too. It would be so good if we could have something similar in the UK. Every day the commune workers would clear the streets and everyone took a pride in their surroundings. Local government at the level of the commune in France seems really to work. Litter was absolutely unknown. Here it is difficult to fight through bureaucracy to find the right person to speak to over such issues. Very sad - I really miss the French system - I would even put up with the less delightful aspects of French red tape to have that sort of community awareness here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular looking town hall and I am marveling at how manicured it is! So pristine and perfect..I would expect nothing less:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking building and gorgeous flower beds. It's nice to see it is well cared for.
ReplyDeleteI love these grand and beautiful buildings, here in Amsterdam everything is modern ....

This is such a handsome building, Sharon. I love how well taken care of it is. A nice reflection of your town!

Wow! It's a gorgeous building! So well maintained, and the flowers are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely. I love that you let us have little details of French life. It's so interesting.
ReplyDeleteI always found that the churches too seemed ever so grand for the size of the villages in France. They were often like something one would see in the centre of a major city in Australia. The French seem to know no bounds when it comes to beauty. Must be lovely to constantly live amongst it.

ReplyDeleteBonjour Sharon,
ReplyDeleteI am French Lady, born in Paris(75015) & grew up there for 28 years. Then I met my American husband & left France for Germany...then the USA.
I am in the South, not my cup of tea. I miss FRANCE very much & my husband who was killed in a plane crash & never identified !!!!
That city hall reminds me of the one at PACY-sur-EURE.
