I don't know who was the first person to think of using grain sacks to upholster a chair, but I salute them! I love the look, I love the idea of perpetuating something beautiful.
I have quite a few grain sacks at the moment, including these matching four. I've kept some for myself, but the others are into the store.
While looking for new ways to use them, I found these shots.
Love these ideas, just wish there were more than 24 hours in a day to do all this stuff !
Have you already use grain sacks to upholster? I'd love to see what you created. If anyone wants to send me a picture by mail, I'll add their baby to this post.
In the meantime, if you need a sack ( or four ! ) to finish a project at home, take a look at the store and see if I can help you out.

Thank you to Colette at La Brocanteuse, for sending these pictures of
two Belgian chairs she had upholstered in grain sacks

I love the grain sacks. In the USA women used to use feed sacks to make clothing and to make quilts.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the enamel coffee pot!!!
Love, Terri

I love this idea too - superb and can't wait to see your results.
ReplyDeleteI have seen some gorgeous ones at the flea market in Nashville and love them. Oh, how I wish I could do things like that. I know yours will be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I adore the grain sacks as upholstery, cushions, as is...just love them! It would be very interesting to know who started doing this...Colette x ~ Afrique du Sud
ReplyDeleteGrain sacks are lovely and it is such a great idea to find ideas to recycle them.
ReplyDeleteI read what Terri said (your first comment) and had to add that in cold weather, I sleep under one of those quilts made in part with feed sacks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up (at that time in Pennsylvania Dutch country) my brothers made pocket money by raising chickens to sell eggs. The feed grain came in big sacks of calico, and were delightful patterns, rather than lettering. I still look at my old quilt and see the chickens in their coop.

And the chairs are delightful!
ReplyDeleteThey look great. I assume the fabric has a softness to it. I couldn't imagine it would be scratchy as that'd be no fun to sit in!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I have two chairs this would be amazing for...
ReplyDeleteI agree! A big salute to whoever started this trend. LOVE!

They are gorgeous such a great idea. I like them as durable cushions too!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had pictures of the grain sacks I've had through my business but I sold them all, stupid me. I wish I had kept a few since they do look wonderful on furniture.
ReplyDeleteWhoever came up with the idea was a genius becuase i just looove the idea...such a classic and vintage-y but chic look. Love it and each of the chairs above are just lovely.
ReplyDeleteSigh! Absolutely gorgeous and romantic!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely do it. Those grain sacks on the chairs look wonderful. I really like that look. Its a nice twist on a standard chair but with a cute story.
ReplyDeleteThat little grain sack Louis chair is ADORABLE. Wish he would walk right in to my living room.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful look! I love the one with the pink stripes throughout. I have some old flour sacks from my grandma - she used them as dishtowels. Nothing better for drying dishes, ever.
ReplyDeleteIt is so fun to use these on chairs and for pillows. I have also done lampshades, which are so cute. Thanks for reminding me how fun they are, and your's are beautiful!
