You may remember that a while back I asked your opinion on window treatment for the eaves bedroom in our guest cottage. I thought you might like to see progress so far.
I worked out a simple method of fixing a crown for draped curtains behind the bed head. I have been experimenting with linen drapes, lined with antique embroidered voile. This is a good start, but at 28" each, the drapes are nowhere near wide enough. I'll be needing at least twice that width to give a proper fullness.
Here is the before shot!
There has been good progress redecorating the kitchen as well, calming down colours and freshening up. It doesn't always need a total makeover to make a room feel welcoming.
and the before shot, not sure how I stuck with these colours for so long!
There'll be more to come, next stop will be the sitting room.

my first time on your blog so just saying hi ;)
I love the guest room! I could crawl into that bed and pull those curtains and sleep for a month. Now that I'm done playing the harp for Irish concerts this year...maybe I'll hang some curtains around my own bed at home and do just that!
ReplyDeleteLots of creative energy is flying about your place - and the results are wonderful. I love the solution for the curtains above the bed. It preserves the shape of the window.
ReplyDeleteThe bed is gorgeous! And, I always admire anyone with clever sewing skills...the crown idea is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWow, what's gotten into you?

Oh Sharon....what a wonderful window treatment you have come up with. I love putting furniture in front of windows where you are pressed for space.

ReplyDeleteGood Gracious~This is such a transformation!! I adore the bed and all the trimmings....the curtains are glorious and will be even more when they are twice the width they are now....I agree with you Sharon!! The bed came out simply divine!! I would just LOVE to spend some time there wouldn't you??
ReplyDeleteSharon~You m'dear, are the most amazing woman to be able to do so many things and do them so extradinarily well. Maybe you could have a workshop one of your weekend events, that would be on upholstery or drapes or decorating. You do all so well and so many can learn from you.
If it wasn't for this kitchen/butlers pantry project we are doing, I would love to come over for a visit at your lovely lovely spot deep in the heart of Normandy.
All my best to you!!!

I love those polka dot curtains!
ReplyDeleteI saw fabric like that when I was in Aix-en-Provence last August and regret not having bought some. I did take home white kitchen towels with big red polka dots, found in a department store in Lyon the spring before.
so charming! I voted for the crown/mosquito net vibe but that heavier fabric you chose absolutely MAKES it. but i gotta say, its the polka dot curtains that make me smile. So pretty. all of it. In ATL they are having a frankophile fest: the tag line is "drenched in French".
ReplyDeleteAll such French charm! I'd love to be visiting here right now...how beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBlessings from South Africa
Shel
Sharon, this is fabulous! You also changed out the rug, correct? I can't wait to come visit . . .I was so hoping that this spring my dream would come true . . .not giving up yet!
ReplyDeleteCome stay with me and help me decorate!

Hi Sharon
ReplyDeleteThree weeks in and I am now conversant with posting a comment. I just wanted to say that you were one of 3 bloggers who inspired me to begin blogging. You will never know how life changing that has been for me. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Best wishes
Carolyn
I wish I could lie down in that lovely bed right now. It looks so inviting.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteAs far as your concern about the fullness of the linen and lace I have faced the same concern as I also love to reuse, repurpose, retrofit in my "faux" French Country home (which is no where near as lusious as yours...but you give me hope, lol!) Maybe if you tightly gather the linen to the back of the crown and less full on the sides and front...and only tightly gather the lace to the sides and front of the crown. Both will then be fuller... and look more like linen drapes with a lace trim??? (I use three rows of zigzags over thin cording for really tight gathers). Ah, well, just a thought?! Believe me I've had a million that didn't work at all! However, I'm sure no matter what, it will be "parfait"! And the bed redo, the use of the large polka dots, not to mention the rest...well all I can say is "oh la la!"
