upholstered bedhead

There I was wondering what to do with myself (trying not to think about facebook!), when I stumbled upon this little beauty at a brocante yesterday.

It's exactly the size and shape I wanted for a project I'm working on, so now I just have to scrape off 50 layers of paint, re-upholster and hey presto!

I'll try and be quick so I can show you the finished pictures soon!

Thank you for your helpful comments and words of advice about facebook - I am told I must go there but feel more like I am being dragged!  I'll definitely follow your advice on privacy, in fact I'll probably just use it for the blog.  In fact I think I need a few readers on fb to get this page networked - if anyone has the patience to click and build up my numbers I'd be vey grateful.

Merci !

  1. It is quite beautiful! I have been looking and looking for a similar one but Chicago doesn't have many French antiques!
I cannot wait to see what you are up to!

  2. In regards to Facebook just say no !! I joined to stay in touch with my kids. Can you say to much information? Because thats what I got not so much about them but there friends and eventually my friends. And then one of my daughters blocked me when she moved out and was up to no good, yes blocked me that was a shocker and a little painful I might add. If you must do it keep your friends close and you enemies closer and everyone else, again I will say, just say NO!!!

  4. Love the headboards, can't wait to see them finished. About facebook, I would think twice about it. I find it very "un-elegant" I just made up the word. I see it more for teenagers or people just gossiping with nothing else to do. Blogging I find it elegant, more mature and for businesses that want to advertise. Can you tell I don't like facebook. Also there's a lot of people in trouble because of it, keep seeing it on the news. Anyway it's just my humble opinion.
    Ido.

  13. Oh I want it; I've been looking for one of these myself! Even "dans son jus" il est magnifique! I suppose however that it is only 140 cm large? That's the problem with French beds. looking forward to seeing the "after" shots! xxIris

  14. How curvaceous and ladylike! I love the head and footboards. It reminds me of my own vintage set - dark wood with painted panels of roses. I love it.

  15. Love the head/foot boards of the bed. These are classic lines that never go out of style.
I agree with Ido's comments on facebook, and love the phrase 'un-elegant'. So very true.

  17. what a magnificent bed - cannot wait to see the update. I recently deleted my facebook account and so did my husband - we had had enough of reading about people having cups of tea and/or the flu!! and what you read about your teens and moreso their friends is even worse. I say just keep the lines of communication open with your real friends and family and as for the rest you dont really need to know !! xo

  18. I would die for a bed like that!! not that I'd need it then, but you know what I mean. Looking forward to seeing it all finished. RE facebook, my kids have been telling me to join but I don't see the point. They live on it 24/7 and I certainly don't need that. The one good thing about it is, if you wanted to find someone you have lost contact with.. but it's definately not for me. take care, maryann

  22. Be still my heart!! What great bones & I know it will be fabulous when you finish it. Is this the bed you were looking for for your guest house under the pointed windows? Remember, just leave the windows bare & play up the bed using your wonderful antique linens. Hope you find the long bedside tables in the right French blue or pale green. How dreamy it will be!

  23. Hi Sharon,
I didn't get to read all the comments people made about facebook, so forgive me if this is redundant. But I have a fan page for my blog (Gg - Notes on the Journey fan page), which I keep separate from my personal facebook page, for closer family and friends, or even for bloggers who become friends. I didn't know if you knew that was a possibility. I like it alot.

    Fondly,
    Glenda

  24. OOOO, I'm loving that bed! Can't wait to see yours. I'm gathering you've also had trouble making yourself "do" the FB thing. I have the same aversion to it. I don't really "get" it. I do have a FB page for my blog. It does let people who go to FB and who have "friended" my blog, know when I do a new post. I also have a FB page for friends. I never go to either page!! laurie

  25. Oh I absolutely love that bed and would love to get into a project like that. You could make it so original and beautiful. !! Can't wait to see the finished product.

From what I've managed to understand and been told about Facebook - their 'business' page is quite different to a personal one. Different functions. I'm not quite sure how the business one works though. I've had friends set them up, but then can't do what they want on them like they can their personal. Not sure if that helps. Good luck! I've like it though:)

  28. I am still kicking myself for not buying two twin beds, similar to yours, at an auction in Vermont for $50...for the pair! Still have sweet dreams of what I would have done with those. I can't wait to see your finished product.

  29. Oh to think that you just stumbled upon this at a brocante. You do live in the most delightful world. ;-)
Love the bed and will be eager to see what you do.
