le fromage normand

Some of you may know that I live in cheese country.  Not far from us in Normandy there are towns with evocative names like  Pont l'Eveque, Livarot, Brillat Savarin or  Camembert.

Besides their delicious flavour I always enjoy their packaging.  Bright labels stuck on the lids of small  wooden boxes, some round, some square.  Many of the designs haven't changed for years - why should they?

  1. The labels are so festive but I bet the cheese is better than the labels!

  4. Wow I think I would have a hard time throwing away the packaging since I truly appreciate every little detail on something well done down to the packaging!
Why is that the French just have that "special touch" no matter they do?
Case in point..look at the French cheese wrappers above and then you have Velvetta...LOL!

  13. Those are darling packages. My wheels are spinning with all of the ways those could be used. I wish some of our packaging here in the US was so interesting and full of tradition. Some might be but we probably take it for granted!

  16. Dear Sharon,

My husband will be drooling when he sees all the cheese labels.
As to the above, sorry, I seemed to have missed out somewhere.

  17. Dear, dear Sharon,

The more I see your blog, the more I love it. My-Reason-For-Living-In-France was lamenting this weekend about the fact he "NEEDED" some Camembert and the cupboards were bare.

Yes, yes, we "need" to talk. I miss our conversations.

    Tell me when.

    xo,
    Tish

  18. I love these labels! My grandfather was French Swiss and I fondly remember that his desserts were almost always a little wedge of cheese. Thanks for bringing back a happy memory! Mark

  19. The labels are perfect. Art really. It's very difficult for me to throw away the boxes when we finish a cheese. I have a hard time throwing away the Ile de France boxes too!
