correcting the King

How many of you have seen the King's speech?  We went on Sunday evening, loved it.  Great story, perfectly cast, beautifully acted, wonderful décors and costumes.

And my favourite detail of the true story is that this very proper royal problem was treated and corrected by a wonderfully laid back, warm hearted  .... Aussie - Good on ya' mate!

  3. Oh, I saw it on Sunday and loved it too. I said the same thing to the hubby... This film wouldn't have worked without Geoffrey Rush's character being Australian. Loved the fact there was no pomp and ceremony with him... Perfect and is exactly how I found life in Australia. My hubby is a behaviourist working with severely autistic children and everyone just warms to his manner... very down to earth and fun... just like this chap... Lx

  6. Re-commented because I made a mistake with the speech therapist's name. Can't remember it.

We saw it on Valentine's Day! And Sunday night, 60 Minutes (a television show) featured the movie and its basis is fact. So incredible that the speech therapist's handwritten notes were preserved & discovered, etc. A VERY exciting movie! I so hope it gets many if not all of the awards it is nominated for!

  7. Such a great film and a lovely story. My best friend is a Aussie, so it doesn't surprise me that it took an Aussie to have the gumption to match wits with a King! ;-)

  11. Guy Pearce and Geoffrey Rush were both remarkable in the film.

Also very good is "Barney's Version," for which Paul Giamatti (sp?) won best actor, Golden Globe.

  20. Saw it and its one of my favorites in recent years for sure, a real "story" just the kind of genre I like. I have recommended it to several people as well.....many lessons to be learned. I really hope (and think it deserves) to take best picture and Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush was outstanding in their respective roles. It would be nice to see the movie take the gold as official recognition of a fabulous film that has been enjoyed by so many.

  21. I haven't seen this one yet, but I would be interested to see Helena Bonham Carter playing something other than the role she typecasts herself into... a wacko with tragically crazy hair. I know she can do something more!

  22. I loved this film and hope it will win an oscar for best film. I also think Colin Firth could win as best actor. It was a wonderful movie, with great acting, writing, and directing. Maybe my favorite film of the year.
