Brocante atmosphere here, what with the bed and a load of monogrammed sheets I got my little greedy hands on today.
The bed first, (I showed it to you this week) there is progress, but slower than I had hoped for. I'm using a
Here is a detail before and after
and these are two side bars, one sanded, one the original version
Now I just have the rest to do!
I'll soon be ready to re-upholster and, having found a load more monogrammed sheets, I am seriously tempted to use their beautiful creamy colour to upholster the bedhead and foot. I'd probably place the monogramme centred on the foot of the bed.
Look at the choice I have!!
and most exciting of all a perfect pair with a stunning huge RM on each, these are in perfect condition, I love them, and I also have a third RM in a slightly more simple style.
Over to you now, I love it when I get feedback on my renovation ideas.
What would you do for paint finish and upholstery?

I was thinking...
ReplyDeleteBecause I am such a good friend and kind hearted individual I volunteer to take that bed off your hands! Yes! I am that kind of person! You don't need this grief!
LOL!
BRILLIANT idea to use the monogrammed sheet. It will be fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like you are moving right along on this project. Those linens are a perfect choice. The monograms are exquisite! I like the chippy look with the waxed wood once sanded. Oh, this is a bed of my dreams! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI think that would look superb to have the monogram as part of the headboard, just gorgeous! I love the sneak peeks at what you are doing and can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteThis is a unique project so rich in possibilities. Love the chic look for the finish and R M linen for the upholstery. You've got everything you need so proceed as I am looking forward to your project completion.
ReplyDeleteYou're right on track with the shabby chic effect and the monogram on the headboard. Can't wait to see the completed project.
ReplyDeleteWhat would I do? Honestly... be glad to have a good friend like you around to help me decide!! Absolutely lovely...everything! I often feel like I am in Jane Austen days when I visit you (for all that you are French in style!)!It's the serenity you give that is just so nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Ann
I say sand it down and repaint and reupholster. The monograms are a great idea but I tend to prefer them on paper as later down the track you might want to sell it.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!

What a beautiful, graceful bed. The monograms are a perfect fit.
ReplyDeleteDo you have the spray called Scotchgard there? It soil-proof fabrics. I'd give the linens a good shot of that before putting them on the bed so it will always look fresh.
I did two rough woven cotton fabric couches with Scotchgard and they never soiled--even with 2 teenagers!
Cheers,
Jeanette
i just hope you know I am dying of envy! Love that bed!!! Love those linens! I cannot wait to see the finished result.
ReplyDeleteThe monogrammed linens are fabulous! The bed will be gorgeous upholstered with these.
ReplyDeleteThis bed is FABULOUS! And the idea of upholstering with monogrammed sheets? Pure genius! I can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeletePaint with a very dry brushing of light gray or use Annie Sloans chalk paint and then definitely use these linens for the upholstery. These are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe bed is gorgeous and the side bars sanded are lovely!
Those monogrammed sheets are adorable...lucky you!!
Cant wait to see it when its finished..:)

I have some linens of my great - grandmothers, with her initials.. I love them so.
ReplyDeleteKeep scraping Sharon I can't wait to see the finish! That is going to look so amazing, I would do exactly what you're doing scrape and then maybe highlight areas with a darker tone...gray? and then wax it. Use the linen, linen goes with everything. Work girlfriend your loyal subjects want to see!
ReplyDeleteI find it completely amazing that you are willing to tackle this project!!! I couldn't handle it in a million years...I'd be off the the carpenter and the upholsterer's
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bed! Your plan sounds perfect, can't wait to see it all dressed up.
ReplyDeleteLonden
Since R & M are our initials & if the bed was for us I'd love to see them on both the head & foot boards.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back to see the end result, I'm sure whatever you choose will look great.

My instinct tells me to paint the bed frame black. Upholster with a soft Ventian green or faded back and white vertical stripes. Plain white would work as well.
ReplyDeleteBut I wouldn't use the old linens with a black frame, rather with the half paint-stripped frame.
What a wonderful idea to use the old linens you have. If they are is good as shape as you've shown, they will be lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like the distressed look of the wood on the bed frame, the only thing I might be is put a grayish glaze over the frame to bring out a bit of the grain. This would add some contract between the frame and the upholster boards.
Just my two cents...
Perfect! Your ideas are perfect for this bed. R-M monogram centered in the middle of the foot of the bed & partly sanded, chippy wood. Can't wait to see the completed bed & bedroom.
ReplyDeleteOh, definitely. So definitely use one of those monogrammed sheets to upholster the headboard. And another one for the footboard. And then paint the trim a slightly greyish robin's egg blue.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'd do.
I would hire the men on the industrial estate down the road to do it all for me. I do not trust myself with a staple gun nor would I attempt hospital corners with upholstery fabric. I wouldn't have a clue about wadding and it would all end in tears. You are extremely brave and talented. Deb xx
ReplyDeleteWhat you are doing is fabulous and timeless
ReplyDeleteQuestion, what type of wax will you use (following the half sanding) and does the waz need to be reapplied later?
