auction preview, french bedlinen arrival and giveaway winners

Lots to get through today.  First of all I have been lucky enough to find a batch of wonderful old French bedlinen.  Just putting it up in my store right now, some already visible, more to come during the day.

If you have any doubts as to what to do with these fantastic heavy hand-embroidered sheets, you could look for inspiration to the über-talented Maria at Dreamy Whites, she did a whole post on French linens this week, and frankly I could do no better!

I had real fun yesterday afternoon, checking out the auction preview.  Here are some of my favourite things, I'll try for a couple of them on Tuesday.  There were some nice dining chairs, a set of sweet armchairs and little sofa that would look great in a bedroom, and two very pretty decorative mirrors.

There is obviously a whole house that has been emptied here, (I must remember to tell my children to never let my stuff go to auction like this!!) loads of glass and china, some pretty mismatched pieces, very sweet set of crème brulée pots,  some lovely vases ...

Nice set of Larousse dictionaries that would look good on a bookshelf where black is required in the room, couple of cool vintage black handbags, quite a reasonable looking painting and some cute wooden and lined jewellery boxes.

On the whole a good viewing before the auction, and ideal conditions for nosing around since I was alone!!  If only it could be like that on the day of the sale!

Now finally it's the end of the week and I promised to announce my giveaway winners.  They were drawn first thing this morning, and I am happy to say that the following lucky girls have won these yummy items

The fantastic and cheerful chicken painting by Ande at Chickory has been won by warm-hearted Jane at Blondie's Journal

These beautiful book ends, kindly donated by Ann at Plum Siena will go to lucky Luna at French of Heart,,  (don't forget to say which finish you choose Luna!)

The cool boar bag from Lush Designs has been won by lucky Melissa at Miss Sew &;Sew

a  bakers dozens of pretty  bags hand-printed By Gina at Gina's Ceramics goes to Aunty Belle

and these sweet bracelets made by Sophie at Somalian Panther have been won by Karyn at Hope Island Living,,  and Karyn, you get to choose the finishing colour for the cotton ties on your bracelets!

Congratulations to you all.  If you could  email me with your mailing address
I'll pass the info on straight away.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend, and thank you especially to everyone who has left a comment or sent me an email this week - I have had some wonderful things to read and think about - I am truly grateful

  6. The little white pots that you have pictured are really sweet. Do you know what they are used for? Are those the crème brulée pots you mentioned? So wonderful virtually going to that auction through your eyes!

  16. Hello Sharon,
I found your blog looking for ideas myself. Something where I live is more called a country cottage nestled inbetween horse fields. Although I am not drawn in by the word country here in the states, where you live I would be fascinated. Only going on the assumption this is actually a 'French' cottage and that by first glance I was taken to one of my favorite movies Marie Antoinette. Looking at the older post it seems I'm a little late for this but I would love to see how your finished bedroom turned out. Any pictures would be appreciated. The Cottage is beautiful by the way. Only something I dream of:)
