la premiere neige

Yesterday we had our first dusting of snow.
Pretty?  - Yes,
Cold?  - No, freezing!
Welcome?   -  Well I'm afraid that when you have horses, the cold weather hangs heavy because there's so much more work needed to keep them fit and happy.

Our neighbour races trotters for fun and  this morning my path crossed that of his jockeys, out exercising the horses ..... suddenly winter didn't look so bad!

  1. Awesome pics! I had horses when I was younger and it was pretty hard work in the winter. It was awful having to go out riding in the cold and rain. It was often getting dark by the time we'd get home. However, sometimes a long gallop with the driving rain piercing your face was exhilirating. And then, getting warmed up by the fire afterwards was lovely. I hope to have horses again one day. Thanks for sharing these pictures x x

  8. What romantic images. And I think there's something magical about the first snow - a palpable excitement in the air.
Our first snow is melting now under the rain that's been dripping down.

  9. We woke up to a winter wonderland, too, today. It is beautiful. In Holland the horses have to stay in the barns in the winter along with the cows. It's just too cold. Your photos are rare and beautiful. xo Jenny

  10. Good Morning from Chicago. Freezing, but no snow as of yet! (with this comment, it is sure to snow now)

I just love your posts and the photos are wonderful. Cold, snow or whatever may be the weather, there is nothing to NOT love about my favorite place in the whole world. Wish I was your neighbor! I truly feel like I have returned to France when I read your wonderful posts!
