In France at this time of year, every florist, small shop and street corner seems to have sprouted huge chrysanthemums in pots. Not only because it is the season for them to be in flower but mostly because the beginning of November marks All Saints Day, or le Toussaint. Traditionally this weekend, families all over the country will visit family graves and leave behind one or more of these magnificent plants. On a rainy grey day like today, these splashes of colour are most especially welcome.

We celebrate All Saints Day in Finland too, but alas there are no flowers in bloom this time of the the year; they're lucky yo have any leaves on the trees left in my home country...beautiful pictures as always. xx

Gorgeous mums, thank you. I bought a pot of sunshine yellow mums and they are glowing on my patio. The cemeteries must look bright with all the color.

I think it's such a shame that they are reserved for cemeteries. They are such lovely flowers and as there aren't many different ones around at this time of year it's a pain they are looked upon as only 'death' flowers.

Growers wish attitudes would change too, they'd have a lot more business spread over more of the year!
I so look forward to the chrysanthemums this time of the year. The hardy varieties are just starting to bloom, so will extend the season another three or four weeks outside. Never knew to think of the for All Saints Day, but why not! THanks for sharing.
