Here's another French salon for you to ponder. How do you like this one? It's definitely more 'designed' than the last I shared with you, I like the proportions. It's funny actually, because it ticks all the fashionable interior design boxes; right colours, good looking chairs and sofas; neat and tidy, but I don't feel it's a walk-right-in-and-settle-on-down sort of room.
There is a fireplace but I'm having trouble imagining it lit.. There are no curtains to the window, but then, that is a tricky shape to dress.
I know I've said it before but I think that a 'lived in' look is what does it for me these days, and you can't say that this room looks lived in, there are no dog's toys sticking out from behind the sofa, or a pair of slippers thrown into a corner......... Am I just getting too picky?
Here's a question for you, give me two elements from this room you'd happily take home with you and two things you're really not comfortable with. Look forward to hearing your ideas.
Thank you to Mires Images for the use of these photos.

i love this room, except for one big thing...it's not finished! it desperatly needs some art on the walls. b+w photos, some etchings or drawings, and a large contemporary and colorful piece for above the console table. garden sculptures or large architectural pieces would look great too........otherwise, i really like it bunches.
ReplyDeleteThe room is lacking some warm elements, it looks a bit sparse and cold. I love the sofa and bench as it gives some texture, but the blue slip covered chairs look a little sloppy. Perhaps some art on the walls and some deep rich pillows...I am a pillow nut!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
It's off to a great start. I'd take the black cabinet and the big square coffee table. The cabinet adds height and the table is the central focus. Things I could live without - the bare floors (ie, I'd add a rug) and the wooden slat chairs - they look like they've been brought in from the garden for extra seating.
ReplyDeleteI commented on this, but it must be attached to another post....it seems the above readers are as disappointed viewing as I am. I returned to this post to read what other readers had to say.
ReplyDeleteResponding again to your posed questions, the best element in this room is the furniture arrangement and the axis created by it in front of the windows. I am uncomfortable with the shirted table to the left of the fireplace which matches the ill fitting slipped wing chairs. The architectural seating arrangement is so not suitable with a round shirted table. A rectangular shape coved in another fabric would have been chic! Oh well, the owners did their best.
I so look forward to reading your posts, and like what I read. But this one I could have done without.
I would take that ottoman and those great wing chairs but I'm with you that room doesn't look live-in! The room doesn't look finished. The stuff on the coffee table looks weird it's all spaced out in an odd way...who does that? The floors are gorgeous but need a rug or two to add warmth. This room has great elements though and if someone said I could live there I would and add my touches.
ReplyDeleteThe room is very stylish - if that is what you want but for me it is too stark almost black and white without any colour - and I don't like the wing armchairs too much.
ReplyDeleteBut I love the light pouring in from the beautiful doors into what I presume is the garden and the lovely wooden floors. But as you say not terribly lived in but then it wouldn't make a photo shoot would it!!! Jillx
I'm taking the two slip covered chairs and removing the small objects from coffee table and mantle.
ReplyDeleteVery bad proportions and too many for this style...
I would keep going but you said 2/2 hehe

It's pretty, but lifeless. I'd like a spot of color somewhere.
ReplyDelete1. Love the sofa
ReplyDelete2. Love the huge mirror
3. Needs an area rug
4. Needs pillows and throws
Initially, I loved the gigantic
coffee table, but the more that
I pondered, it occurred to me that
it would just be TOO big for
most spaces....and certainly
my own! Fun post, Sharon!

ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of space!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you . . .love a space that invites me in. This space says come in, but don't stay long. The coffee table and bare floors are just wrong in my opinion. I am drawn to the big black mirror, ottoman, and lovely windows. Thanks for another interesting post . . .love looking a these interiors!
ReplyDeleteLove this space but agree with Blondie..it needs something else. Maybe some art? x
ReplyDeleteThe sofa does invite... I'd lay on it as its almost a chaise. The background color is a neutral that I like, deep.
ReplyDeleteThe black slipcovers gotta go. In fact the wingback chairs themselves aren't inviting either, stiff.
Room needs LIFE...pattern, art, whatever...looks dead now.
I'd take the breakfront and console table (and the bare room and windows are great). The two chairs remind me why I don't like slipcovers, sloppy. Add a rug and art. They could have brushed off the dead flowers from the coffee table before they took a picture.
ReplyDeleteO.K....since you asked.....too many straight lines for me.....makes it feel to stark....I would either put a large mirror with some curves.....or change the coffee table.....also gotta'have at least one pillow....come on...''
ReplyDeleteThings I would take....I actually like those sloppy slip covered wing chairs...although the fabric needs to be steamed and it does look at bit stiff....but I like the lines.
ok....there you have it.....just off the top of my head.
This was a fun post...made us use our noodles!!!

I like the proportions, too, but, like Suzanne I think it needs an area rug, pillows and a throw to make it cozier.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a little fan of clutter.

Your living room is so relaxing. I love the earth tones. My living room has beige as its main color (even the tile). St Petersburg is a big city, and I find it nice to go home to a relaxing living room, all away from the busy life of the city.
ReplyDeleteLove the sofa but would prefer in a richer colour, love the natural light from the large window. Dislike the coffee table it has such ugly lines and the "outdoor" slat chairs!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this room!
ReplyDeleteThe blue on the chairs looks great against all of the neutral coloring.
I'd be very proud if my home looked like this:-)
LOVE YOUR PICTURES, MAY I ASK IF YOU COULD CONTRIBUTE THE KITCHENS OF OLD? WHAT A DIVNE WAY TO LIVE. IN ESPANA WE ALSO ENJOY LIFE, LETS FACE IT, MOST OF EUROPA IS THIS WAY. HOPEFULLY I WILL FIND SOME AWESOME PICTURES OF OLD KITCHENS. VIVA LA BUENA VIDA! "ROCKET

I guess I am in the minority, but I LOVE this space, I am so fond of not much color or clutter.. but since I am asked to pick one thing, I would have a giant gold rococo mirror above the fireplace instead of the plain black squared shape.. this room can def. handle it since everything else is very neutral. I would happily take home the coffee table and wing back chairs!
ReplyDeleteWOW, you are really asking for it, aren't you...LOL!
ReplyDeleteI am a little hesitant to pick apart such a beautiful home, but I do understand you wanting "real-ness", so here goes;
The ceramic low planet by the door (white) with the funky low plant and the fully (black) skirted table, too traditional, neither of these would make it in my home!
However, EVERYTHING else would... LOVE the garden chairs, love the colors, love the linen covered wing backs, the wood sideboard. the camelback tufted sofa is not my style at all, but in this case it could be an heirloom, and so it would pass, it kinda works in this house.
