The first frost -la première gelée

First heavy frost of the season caught us unprepared.  I better spend some extra time this weekend putting the garden to bed for the winter, I thought I still had a week or two .  At least the sedums don't mind the cold, some roses are resisting as well, and the box can take the frost, but my lovely dahlias have admitted defeat and said goodbye until next year.

  6. Sharon, your garden is so lovely, what a rich array of purple sedum......it looks beautiful! The dahlia is stunning, what a joy to still have such abundant colours and blossoms this time of year. I guess everything does eventually need to rest.....

  9. Isn't it bittersweet? It makes you grateful for each day's beauty. We just left Italy and stopped in Munich for a layover, which was only 1 degree C. Rome was 22! Maybe next year we'll make it to see you!

We are fortunate to be on Lake Erie, which keeps us warmer than surrounding areas for a couple of weeks longer.

    Happy weekend!

    Soothing somehow.

  11. Your garden is fantastic, you live in a wonderful place.
Your garden reminds me Gramado's gardens, in south of Brasil. They are fabulous, too.
Thanks for sharing so beautiful images.
