autumn visitors

Now I know we really live in the country, just look who
decided to hibernate outside my front door!

A single mum hedgehog plus four offspring!

Vive les herissons!

PS  In answer to your comments, yes, these are my pictures.  These baby hedgehogs are incredibly approachable.   They move quite slowly, and they didn't mind me picking them up - I wore gloves -  for the sake of a photo.  It's all gone quiet now, after a few days snuffling around and settling down, I think they've finally gone to sleep!

  10. Oh Sharon, how lucky are you! Adorable. We have possums who often spend winter in our shed, and I think we're so lucky to live with wildlife around. Can't say the family feel the same way about the snakes though, but you have to take the good with the bad! K xx

  16. Sharon,
Tu as raison de dire " vive les hérissons" !
Ce sont de bons petits animaux qui malheureusement ont
un ennemi : les voitures... Tes photos sont très réussies.
    Vive la campagne !

  20. I am glad you went all "paparazzi" on this sweet creature, I wonder if she knows how famous you made her?
Your lucky to have hedgehogs, they are a natural form of pest control, especially helpful if you have a vegetable garden.
I live in a sixth floor apartment in NYC but I know these things. I read gardening books.

  23. How precious. I had a pet hedgehog in my classroom for a while. It belonged to another teacher, but she let it visit our room for an extended stay once. They are sweet little creatures. Thanks for sharing your photos. ~ Sarah
